FAQ

When are services held?

Sunday morning worship is at 10:30 am. Sunday school classes for all ages are also held each week at 9:30 am. There are 9 different classes to choose from.

Where do I park?

There are several parking areas around the campus. There are several Visitor’s and Handicap parking spaces close to the front entrance. However, most people utilize the parking lots across the street, behind the church adjacent to PNC bank, or on 8th Street beside the church.

Is child care provided?

Chestnut Street is a C4C (Church for Children) and welcome them into our Worship experience. Should parents choose, we have Children’s Church following the Pastor’s Children’s sermon. Children’s church is for those children 4 years and younger.

A nursery is provided for infants only during Worship.

Chestnut Street is a “Safe Sanctuary” for children. Meaning we have two non-related capable and compassionate adults with our children, security code from outside, clean environment and sign in so parents may feel at ease when worshiping with us.

How do I dress for worship?

While the Pastor and Choir wear vestments and robes, feel free to dress comfortably. Some men wear suits, others khakis with button down or polo shirt, some wear jeans and a t-shirt, others wear business casual; ladies wear dresses/skirts, slacks/khakis or jeans. We want everyone to be able to worship as they feel comfortable and do not judge people by the way they dress. We just ask that whatever you wear, please remember to be respectful and modest.

How do I join Chestnut Street UMC?

We would be delighted for you to join us. The first step in the process is to have a conversation with the Pastor. The Pastor is tasked with the responsibility of determining membership readiness. We ask that before you decide/commit to become a member of Chestnut Street you visit and/or participate in Church related ministries other than Worship. If you are willing to become a disciple of Jesus Christ then you may join by Profession of Faith (those who are not a part of another congregation and who are joining a congregation for the first time) or by a Letter of Transfer (for those who are/have been a member of another congregation).

How do I get baptized?

Baptism is an outward sign of an inward grace and is open to all ages. Many parents have their children baptized as infants. However, adults who have never been baptized will receive baptism prior to joining the Church. While many congregations only recognize one mode of Baptism (immersion/“Dunked”) we recognize three. However, it is our common practice to baptize by Sprinkling. This involves the Pastor dipping his/her hand into a basin of water and Sprinkling on the head of the individual. Immersion and effusion are also made available should you desire.

There are 9 adult classes to choose from, each with their own personality and style. Visit each class as often as you’d like to find the one best suited to meet your spiritual needs.
